FAQ

What should I expect at my first session?

Your first session will be a 30 minute consultation. This session is free of charge. The session is a chance for me to get to know you, and for you to get a sense of what I'm like. Usually during the consultation session we will discuss any issues that have brought you to counselling, your expectations, and goals for what you would like to achieve. If you decide that we're a good fit for each other and you'd like to continue, we will talk about what to expect in future sessions. We'll also go through some of the administrative topics such as consent forms, privacy policy, fees, etc.

How long is one session?

Most standard sessions go for 60 minutes. The initial free consultation session will be 30 minutes. I also offer 50-minute sessions if it suits you better.

How often are the sessions?

Normally we would meet once a week, but depending on your situation, we can also organise to meet twice a week, or once every fortnight.

Do I need a referral to see a counsellor?

No, you don't. Anyone can make an appointment directly with me.

Can I claim from Medicare or private health insurance?

No.

However, for some private health insurance members that have extras cover, you may be able to claim a rebate for a portion of the counselling fees. Please check with your insurance company directly (this includes Bupa, Medibank, ahm, ARHG etc).

How should I book?

You can book via phone: 0435 169 586 (text message is ok), or book via email: BalancedMindCounselling@gmail.com.

What will happen if I miss, cancel or reschedule an appointment?

You can cancel or reschedule an appointment at no cost up to 24 hours before the start of an appointment.

If you miss an appointment, or cancel or reschedule an appointment with less than 24 hours notice, you will need to pay 50% of the session fee.

What hours do you work?

I work flexible hours. If you require a session that is outside of normal business hours, please contact me to discuss a time that will work for both of us.

How do we meet?

Due to the COVID situation, I only offer video (through WhatsApp, WeChat or teams), phone, text message counselling, no face to face sessions available at the moment. When you book, you can choose how you would like to have your session.

Do you offer counselling to people outside of Melbourne or Australia?

Yes. For those outside of Melbourne I can offer counselling by video, phone, or text message.

Is everything we discuss confidential?

Yes. All information you share with me is strictly confidential and will not be released without your consent. There are limitations, which include:

  • Complying with a court order
  • Responding to a threat of harm to self or others

Do you have a privacy policy?
