Adolescents

Adolescence

Adolescence is an important stage in our development. Biological and psychosocial changes occur rapidly and affect every aspect of an adolescent’s life. This makes adolescence an important time for establishing the foundations that will lead to good mental health in adulthood.

It is also a time of life that comes with significant challenges. Adolescents are transitioning from the safety of childhood to the independence of adulthood, while simultaneously managing an exhausting study workload, while also developing social relationships, while also managing biological changes, while also figuring out who they are and what they want from their lives. It’s a lot to handle all at once.

Challenges for adolescents

Some of the more difficult challenges faced by adolescents are:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Eating disorders
  • Sexuality and gender identity
  • Social and family relationships
  • School pressures

How can Balanced Mind Counselling help you?

First and foremost I am here to support you. Whatever we discuss will be treated as confidential. I do not share the details of our sessions with guardians or caregivers.

We will begin with talking therapy where we will discuss whatever is happening in your life, and how you feel about it. I offer a safe and friendly atmosphere that is free from judgement. I’m here to support you, not to tell you who to be or how to behave. We will set goals for what you would like to achieve from therapy, and we will develop a plan for how we will get there together.

Depending on the circumstances, and what issues you face, we can work on developing skills that can assist you to cope with or fix your issues, or we may work on specific treatment therapies that can help reduce the severity of more serious problems such as depression and anxiety.
